March was another busy month for everyone at ASL, but what a fun and exciting month it was! Here’s what we’ve been up to…
The 18th March was the start of World Down Syndrome Week and to mark the occasion we couldn’t resist showcasing our wonderful and talented bunch on Facebook! We thought it was the perfect way to raise awareness of not only our fantastic team, and how proud they make us, but to also spread the word and let the world know that there is no difference, anything is possible and we leave no-one behind! and of course no World Down Syndrome Week would be complete without our annual World Syndrome Day odd sock photograph! We always have such a great time taking it!
Our Saturday tea room continues to be extremely popular and our Saturday employees are doing a fantastic job! You may remember that being able to offer paid employment to members of our team was a huge milestone, and one of ASL’s proudest moments so far came when we were able to give our fantastic four their first ever ASL wages! and of course, we couldn’t resist filming such a momentous occasion!
Our fab four got an even bigger shock a few days later when they each received a lovely letter of congratulations from our local MP Robert Halfon! Such a wonderful gesture which really made their achievements extra special, thank you!
Many of you will know that we run a day service and the ASL Tea Room but there is also a huge social aspect to ASL outside of our opening times. We have created an extended family to all those who attend and it has changed a lot of people’s lives in so many ways, and our regular outings are just one of the social activities we offer to our young adults – and we were here, there, and everywhere throughout March! We braved the weather and headed out for a lovely walk in Ware and we still had our bobble hats and scarves on for our trip to the Lea Valley White Water Rafting, but we did manage to leave our thermals at home when we headed out for a night of bowling followed by dinner at TGI’s! We always have such a great time and it’s so wonderful and encouraging seeing new friendships developing and personal confidence growing!
We’ve had a birthday bonanza going on over the past few weeks, with not just one or two birthdays but FIVE! A big happy birthday to our lovely Chloe and our wonderful Jaime and happy 30th birthdays to our fabulous Lloyd and beautiful Kathy!! and last but by no means least, happy birthday to our marvellous Marc!! Phew! we’re a bit tired after blowing out so many candles, but we still managed to have a great time celebrating and dancing the night away!
We all had a great time when we joined in with the Great British Clean Up, and a big thank you to Harlow Council for the equipment! We had great fun and we may well make it a regular activity because everyone enjoyed it so much.
April promises to be just as busy and we’re already super ‘eggcited’ about our Easter themed Tea Room, which is already proving to be hugely popular, we do still have limited spaces available, so be sure to book your table as soon as possible! You can find out more about our ‘eggstra’ special tea room here! We ‘hop’ to see you there soon!
